INDIANA, Pa. – (December 9, 2019) — Recently, a video of suspected abuse of a wounded deer surfaced in Pennsylvania during the state’s firearms hunting season opener and is causing outrage among hunters and non-hunters. National Deer Alliance (NDA) is equally disturbed by these images. NDA was created in 2014 to serve as the guardian for wild deer conservation and our hunting heritage working at the policy level.

While the matter is still under investigation by state and local authorities, the video and subsequent images and “screen grabs” show a wounded buck being physically harassed by two young men who can be seen and heard laughing during the video.

“While we understand that this matter is still under investigation, the video, images, and audio are disturbing and the acts committed by the two young men is reprehensible,” said NDA president and CEO, Nick Pinizzotto. “I personally find the matter to be heartbreaking, and I trust that most decent people and law-abiding sportsmen would agree.”

NDA applauds the Pennsylvania Game Commission for its fast response to the situation, and for continuing to update an enraged public. The video has gone viral and has spread across the United States and beyond, which only serves to unfairly portray hunting and hunters in a negative light. NDA is support of a thorough investigation and is seeking punishment to the fullest extent of the law if the suspects are found guilty.

Pinizzotto was joined on the NDA “Coffee + Deer” video vlog by his longtime friend and hunting partner, Mike Groman, to discuss the matter and its negative impact on hunting. You can view the show here.
