Opening Day of Virginia Muzzleloader

Opening day of muzzleloader season was wonderful although I have no deer to report.  I had a really nice doe at about 65 yards and did not take the shot as it was only just light and I felt like I would see more deer.  Frankie shot a really nice, very old 6 pointer that we are pretty sure was on the decline.  His front antlers touched at the tips to form a perfect little circle.

During the afternoon I ran out and sighted in the 300 win mag and I only had 18 rounds with me.  It took me 5 to get onto the paper and once that happened I was able to dial it in with the next 9 rounds at 50 yards.  I pulled up on the 100 yard target and I was 4 inches high at 100 so I dialed it down 8 clicks and took a 3 shot grouping while speed shooting and I came up with a 1.5 inch grouping at 2 inches high.  I AM READY FOR MANITOBA!!

With that bit of happiness, I ran home and picked up Madison to take her on her first hunt and she and I had a hilarious time in the blind looking for deer.  She is just like her sister… DEER… SHOOT EM and EAT EM!  Still have not figured out how to keep munchkins quiet in the blind but we had fun none the less.  Unfortunately would of been better had we seen some deer, but they just were not moving.. No one else at the farm saw any either so I don’t feel like we were singled out.
