Preserving Memories for Fathers

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of FoodSaver®; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

As a father who has been hunting all of his life, the memories created in the field are the best memories of all.  Preserving those memories in my stories, in my photos and most of all in our preservation of the meat from our hunts is a large part of my life.  In our family, much of what we do revolves around the dinner table where we sit each night, say grace and discuss the events of the day as a family.

Father’s Day is coming up and it always reminds me to stop and think about my own father and our trips hunting together.  I started walking in my father’s foot tracks, trying to keep up, on those hunting trips as we chased mule deer through the high Eastern Sierra deserts of Mono and Inyo County. I remember duck hunting the Salton Sea, tossing out the decoys and losing a shoe in the mud and muck on the way to our blind. I remember our first hunts together shooting dove in our back yard in central California and our first trip to Wyoming to hunt antelope.

I loved those trips into the field and I loved coming home with fresh game meat beside my father.  Our family always rallied around the tree where we hung our deer or the tables where we butchered our game whether it was deer, dove or ducks.  A lot of effort was put into cleaning that game and packaging it for future meals down the road.

I take that same pride in raising my own family.  My older kids have had the opportunity to take wild game alongside me and we’ve had the pleasure of serving the meat for many dinners.  We hand process our own game right here in our home.  Whether it is making deer sausage, ground venison, steaks, roasts, plucked dove breasts or wild turkey, we take a special kind of pride in processing our meat for family meals. We rely on the FoodSaver® GameSaver® Big Game™ Vacuum Sealing System for all of the packaging of our meat. We find that the GameSaver® Heat- Seal Bags and Rolls keep our meat up to 5x longer than freezer wrap.

Dove for DinnerWhen I pull out of the freezer a turkey breast to make Ben’s favorite turkey nuggets or dove out of the freezer to make a special meal for Eliza, I like knowing that the meat is going to be in exceptional shape. And I know that whenever I take meat out of the freezer, it never has freezer burn.

GamesaverWe had the opportunity to test out the Big Game™ which offers high performance sealing and can provide up to 80 seals consecutively or up to 240 lbs. of meat.  What I really appreciate about this system is the easy carry handle and the 12 volt DC adaptor.  This is useful when I hunt out in western Nebraska.  I am often gone for days at a time and I need something that can seal up fresh plucked pheasants and game birds so they can go right into the freezer on the ranch.  The 12 volt DC adaptor offers 15.5 feet of cable which should allow just about any sportsman enough cable to work like I do off the tailgate of the truck when processing game in the field.  A built-in storage compartment holds the Fresh Handheld Sealer you can use when you are at home to marinate food in the FoodSaver Quick Marinating Containers.  The Big Game™ works with 8” and 11” vacuum seal rolls, pre-made bags, fresh containers and the FoodSaver Quick marinator.

If you are looking for the perfect gift this year for Father’s day, the Big Game™ GM710 absolutely fits the bill.  Every hunting trip, fathers work to preserve the memories: whether that is with great experiences shared in the field, amazing photographs or preserving great game meat in the freezer ready to create more memories around the family table.
