NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The National Wild Turkey Federation honored Primos Hunting with the Dick Kirby Award for its passion and design of premium turkey calls, as well as a commitment to the NWTF mission.
“Primos is more than honored to be chosen to receive the NWTF Dick Kirby Award,” said Founder of Primos Hunting, Will Primos. “Dick was a legend in more ways than one. He was a fierce competitor on the calling stage, setting a bar that very few could reach. His competitiveness was also felt by all who competed against Dick and his brand, Quaker Boy, for that retail space. Most of all Dick was a caring, talented call maker and artist who recognized the value of the NWTF and the impact it would have on the heritage of Turkey Hunting. Dick fought for the NWTF at every opportunity and Primos is proud to have been a small part of that journey. All of us at Primos are humbled to have been chosen for this award named for Dick Kirby, a tireless advocate of NWTF’s mission.”
Jimmy Primos accepted the award at the 44th annual NWTF Convention and Sport Show.
The award is named for turkey hunting legend Dick Kirby, who was the brains and heart behind Quaker Boy Calls. He also was one of the original members of the NWTF, serving nine years on the NWTF National Board of Directors in the 1990s.
Primos Hunting has been a decades-long supporter of the NWTF’s outreach and hunting heritage programs. In 2018, Primos supported NWTF fundraising efforts by producing and providing NWTF banquets a replica of the original Gibson box call and display case. The Primos team also served as the primary sponsors of the NWTF’s R3 Outfitter Pilot Hunt Program, a new program that connects commercial outfitters with first-time or novice hunters at free or reduced rates as part of NWTF R3 efforts.
“Having industry partners share the same R3 goals as the NWTF makes the impact of preserving our hunting heritage that much stronger,” NWTF CEO Becky Humphries said. “We look forward to increasing hunter recruitment alongside Primos.”
