A couple weeks ago, I discovered that my new employer, Blake Landscapes, had a FaceBook page. It hadn’t been updated in almost two years and had only 24 “fans,” or FaceBook users who had clicked the Like button on the page.
Meanwhile, I had been thinking about picking a local charity for the company to officially support during the Christmas season. It suddenly occurred to me that I could work on these two things at the same time. So I got the company ownership to commit to making a signficant donation to the Leesburg-area food pantry Loudoun Interfaith; I also convinced the owners that they should add three dollars to the donation for every FaceBook user who “liked” our page prior to the date we had planned to make the donation, this coming Tuesday December 20.
We got a great response and since Wednesday have more than quadrupled our FaceBook fans. But I’d really like to see this donation get bigger.
At times I think we overlook the poverty that grips many individuals and families in our region. The truth is though that, not only will many families not have presents under the tree this Christmas, many of them won’t even have enough to eat!
Interfaith Relief lends area residents in need a helping hand by providing nutritious food they can use to prepare meals for themselves and their families. The organization needs our help all year long, but this time of year can be particularly difficult for people struggling to make ends meet.
