Rick Dahl Named Chairman of QDMA Board of Directors

ATHENS, GA (February 4, 2020) – The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) is pleased to announce that Rick Dahl of Missouri has been named Chairman of the QDMA National Board of Directors. Dahl has served on the Board of Directors since 2016, is a Life Member of QDMA, a Level 2 QDMA Deer Steward, and a member of QDMA’s Brothers-Hamilton Legacy Society.

A 30-year veteran of the investment management industry, Dahl served as Chief Investment Officer of the $8 billion Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System from 1995 until his retirement in 2016. Dahl has been on CIO Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential CIO’s in the world. In 2015, Dahl was awarded CIO magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He takes the reins of the QDMA Board from Leon Hank of Michigan, who served as Chairman for the past three years.

“I’m honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve this wonderful organization and its tens of thousands of members, sponsors, partners and friends,” said Dahl. “Hunting and wildlife conservation have been an important pastime for me for over 40 years. To now be positioned to use my life skills to promote and energize the best whitetail organization in the country is something that I very much look forward to doing.”

Dahl’s experience in the financial industry, his business acumen, and his service on a number of other non-profit foundation committees and boards has contributed critical expertise to QDMA. He has been active in QDMA mission work, most recently hosting and serving as a mentor for a QDMA Field to Fork hunt for new adult hunters on his 700-acre Missouri hunting land (Dahl is third from the right in the group photo. “QDMA’s Field to Fork program is industry-leading,” said Dahl. “It recognizes the critical need to recruit new adult hunters and provides them a detailed roadmap allowing them to take control of their protein source in just a few short days. It was a very rewarding experience for me personally, and I would encourage landowners to consider contacting me personally or one of our fantastic team members to host an event. You’ll be glad you did.”

Dahl has implemented many of QDMA’s recommended practices on his land, and his farm was recently inducted into QDMA’s Legacy Lands Program. This program requires extensive deer habitat improvement projects, collection of observation data, implementation of herd management practices, and much more. He has witnessed great improvements in the quality of deer hunting on his property as a result. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a B.S. in Business Administration. He and his wife of 31 years, Maria, have two children, Hannah and Hunter.
