MISSOULA, Mont.—The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation congratulates Aurelia Skipwith on her confirmation as the new director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). The U.S. Senate voted 52-39 in favor.
“Ms. Skipwith’s diverse background with strong scientific and legal expertise make her well-suited to serve as the USFWS director,” said Kyle Weaver, RMEF president and CEO. “We are impressed with her passion for wildlife, wild landscapes and the concerns of sportsmen and women from her visit to RMEF headquarters this past summer.”
Since April 2017, Skipwith served as the deputy assistant secretary of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, an arm of the Department of Interior tasked with ensuring the protection and stewardship of lands and waters within national parks and wildlife refuge systems. She earned a B.S. in Biology from Howard University, M.S. in Molecular Biology from Purdue University, and a J.D. from the University of Kentucky.
Skipwith will now oversee an agency with a mission of working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
