Sweeten Mast Orchards with Deer Candy Persimmons from Chestnut Hill Outdoors

Few soft mast species are more attractive to deer than ripe persimmons, but not all properties are the same. The experienced growers at Chestnut Hill Outdoors have developed four varieties of Deer Candy Persimmons specifically suited for success in different regions.

The Deer Candy Persimmons are renowned for their ability to produce sweet, nutty-flavored fruit during the early to mid-mast season, from late August through October, depending on variety and climate. This timing bridges the nutritional gap between maturing herbaceous plants and hard mast drops, effectively extending the window of attraction for deer and other wildlife.

Chestnut Hill Outdoors’ Deer Candy Collection includes four varieties: Prok, Yates, Morris Burton, and Nikita’s Gift. Deer Candy Persimmons require full sun exposure and are adaptable to upland, well-drained, sandy clay, or loam soils. They can even tolerate occasional wet soil if adequately drained. With proper care and climate conditions, these trees will bear fruit in 2 to 3 years, eventually becoming a towering source of irresistible fruit.

Chestnut Hill recommends planting at least two trees for optimal pollination and mast production, though additional trees can further enhance pollination. Suitable pollinators include Deer Magnet Persimmon and Native American Persimmon, among others.

To ensure the success of their customers, Chestnut Hill will hand-pick the best variety to ensure selected varieties are appropriately suited to the climate of their destinations. These Deer Candy Persimmons are shipped in sizes ranging from 18 to 36 inches in their dormant spring stage.
