The Western Hunting and Conservation Expo 2024: A $15.2 Million Success for Wildlife Conservation

The Western Hunting and Conservation Expo (Expo), a premier event in the world of hunting and wildlife conservation, concluded its latest edition on February 18th, marking another milestone in its commitment to preserving our natural heritage and hunting traditions. The Expo, a collaborative effort between the Mule Deer Foundation and Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife, has once again demonstrated the power of community and conservation working hand-in-hand.

Spanning over 535,000 square feet of exhibit space, the 2024 Expo brought together 590 vendors from across the globe, showcasing the latest in outdoor gear, hunting equipment, and wildlife conservation technology. This year’s Expo was not just a platform for enthusiasts and professionals to converge; it was a testament to the collective effort in supporting conservation initiatives.

A significant highlight of the event was the participation of over 20,040 applicants in the 200-permit drawing, a clear indication of the hunting community’s enthusiasm and support for conservation efforts. The Expo also set a new record in fundraising with just over $15.2 million raised for wildlife and the support of various conservation projects. These funds are critical in ensuring the sustainability of wildlife habitats and the preservation of species for future generations.

The auction of special tags showcased the generosity of the hunting community, with the Arizona Statewide Deer Tag fetching $575,000 and Utah’s Antelope Island Mule Deer Tag selling for $375,000. These auctions not only highlight the value placed on wildlife and habitat conservation but also underline the significant contributions hunters make toward these efforts.

The Expo’s tag programs are often misunderstood, yet they are pivotal in funding conservation initiatives. To shed light on the true impact of these programs, interested parties are encouraged to listen to a comprehensive discussion on our dedicated podcast, available on YouTube. This episode dives deep into how the funds raised through the tag programs are utilized, directly benefiting wildlife conservation and habitat restoration projects.

As we wrap up another successful year, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all exhibitors, attendees, and supporters who have made this event a cornerstone in the fight for wildlife conservation. The Expo stands as a beacon of hope and action, proving that together, we can make a lasting impact on the world we share with our wild counterparts.
