Cruising around the web in the world of Social Media, I am constantly referred to individuals or websites that lead me into interesting corners and some amazing conversations with people who are filled with talent and inspire me in some way. This last month I touched base with the great folks at AEG Media and they sent me three great DVD’s to preview and I can’t wait to purchase the fourth video in their collection.
AEG Media, LLC is short for Angling Exploration Group and these guys really understand what the word exploration means. The first trip to Mongolia for these boys took them from thier homes in the Pacific Northwest to the wilds of the far east chasing the Taimen, a fish of legendary myths and proportions. They rode in Russian 4 x 4’s, Horseback, Camel and wore out several sets of Hiking boots all in the name of exploration for the best fly fishing in the country for trout and the elusive Taiman. This DVD and the other two are absolutely amazing.
Chris Owens, Thad Robison, Justin Crump. Brian Jill and Jay Johnson understand the meaning of the word adventure and these boys share a truly meaningful passion for fly fishing that only truly possessed people share. I have been that obsessed about fishing before and I will probably be again someday, in fact I think these videos might have renewed my passion for fly fishing…I am thinking of getting back out the fly tying material again and braking out the Sage. Enough about my dreams and lets get back to the review.
The first thing you notice is that these guys notice it all. The film work on these productions is absolutely amazing and these guys share it all. From the trials and tribulations of exploration in far off lands to the sights and sounds of the rivers they fish, the scenery of the land they are in, the people, the vehicles, the beer, the food and most especially the fish and fishing they so love. This is the kind of video work and editing that sucks me in and it will suck you in as well. The video allows you to be right beside these guys whether the fish are hitting the flys or they are on the line stripping the backing off of the reels and running for the cut banks and under the riprap against the pressure of the rod.

Metalhead – NW Steelhead
Beginning in early 2008, the crew at AEG Media is hitting the road once again, this time searching for the legendary northwest steelhead. Armed with three HD cameras, a bio-diesel suburban, and a silver house on wheels, the crew will spend four months in the field, floating, hiking, and exploring some of the best steelhead streams in the world. AEG has selected exciting destinations in Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon to film their next journey.
The AEG crew will work side by side with the Wild Steelhead Coalition to expose the over harvest, habitat degradation, poor hatchery practices, construction of impassable barriers to migration, and misguided management strategies have all contributed significantly to the decline, and in some cases extinction, of wild fish runs.
These guys know fishing and I cannot recommend these DVD’s enough. I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of a METALHEAD. The preview on the website is absolutely amazing and it shows the lengths these guys will go to in order to share with you the passion they have for fishing. Metalhead was filmed in the winter of 2008 and these guys lived and breathed the elements in pursuit of the Northwest Steelhead.
Go now, order at least one of these videos, My personal favorite is the Exploration in Mongolia, you will not regret it… These guys hunt big fish and great water like I pursue game, with passion and desire and a constant thought to conservation. Whether you fly fish or not, you will relate to the passion and the pursuit of your dreams that these guys are living.
Now if I could just get my hands on the music that is in these video to download into my IPOD it would be a perfect day.
