W.E Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center has been working for the better part of several years to build a brand new shooting sports facility for youth education. This facility is already 80% completed and will comprise of 12 shooting lanes, a range office, classroom space and capability to serve air rifle, .22 rifle, archery practice and more in the facility. At the current time and in the current economy this facility is at a standstill and they are working on fundraising and grant proposals to complete the last 20% of this project so they can open the range for use before the summer camping season.
The NRA and others have stepped up to move this project forward and the team at W.E. Skelton are looking for partners to help them complete this project. Shooting ranges like this one are an important resource in communities like that of Smith Mountain Lake. The 4-H has done an amazing job of helping to promote the shooting sports and facilities like this help to get kids involved in the shooting sports.
Summer camps like those at W.E Skelton are great opportunities for our youth to get involved in riflery and archery.
