Whitetail Society
There is a new organization in town dedicated to hunting and conservation. The Whitetail Society is engaged in helping fight for hunters’ rights by teaming with the NRA’s Hunter Leadership Forum and working directly on the ground with conservation and research groups directly facing whitetail deer. The Whitetail Society was started at the beginning of this year and has gained a pretty fervent following due to a dramatic change in how they fundraise for the organization.
The Whitetail Society looked at the traditional model of conservation banquets and funding and decided it was time to radically alter the landscape. They aim to create a new model of fundraising to promote the organization and create a winning opportunity for every member throughout the year. In 2017, The Whitetail Society will be giving each member the opportunity to win one of six Nebraska Whitetail Deer hunts. We asked them about each of the opportunities.
1st Hunt Option – We are giving away six Nebraska Whitetail Deer Hunts – all expenses paid – and roughly $2,500 worth of gear to each winner as well. PLUS, each of the six hunters will compete this fall in the greatest Big Buck Contest EVER – where the 1st place buck hunter will win $25,000 in cash, the 2nd place buck hunter will win $12,500 in cash and the 3rd place buck hunter will win $5,000 in cash! Something like this has never been done before – certainly not that I am aware of!
2nd Hunt Option – New members can also choose a chance at winning an all expenses paid Brown Bear Hunt to Alaska in September (A $20,500 hunt).
3rd / 4th Hunt Options – “Members Only” can buy tickets to the New Mexico Antelope & Colorado Mountain Lion hunts we are giving away!!!

We caught up with Larry Wieshuhn and asked him about his support for the organization. “Those of us so fortunate to have enjoyed the bounty of the whitetail deer during the late 20th century and early 21st century, have experienced the “Golden Age of Whitetail”. It is our duty as hunter/conservationists to ensure those who follow will see no less! Diseases, habitat destruction and the ill-informed non-hunting public threaten the well-being of the future of the whitetail. We cannot allow this to happen! Please join me and the many other hunter/conservationists in becoming a member of the Whitetail Society and do YOUR part so the whitetail deer continues to flourish!”
We also saw that Jana Waller and Justin Olk are both members and working to help The Whitetail Society grow. As well, organizations like SlumberJack, PhoneScope, Trijicon, Tract, Hornady and YETI have all stepped up to the plate to support the mission.
The Whitetail Society is a relatively new organization. I am excited to learn more about the work they are doing and about the opportunities available to the members. We will be checking up with them several times throughout this year and following the Big Buck Contest in November.
