WOCA Members Score at OWAA  Annual Awards

Outdoors editor Smith honored with Enduring Excellence Award by national outdoor writers group

Paul A. Smith, outdoors editor for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, was honored Aug. 21 with the 2025 Joan Wulff Enduring Excellence Award by the Outdoor Writers Association of America.

Paul A. Smith, outdoors editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, was honored with the 2025 Joan Wulff Enduring Excellence Award by the Outdoor Writers Association of America.

The award was presented Aug. 21 at the organization’s annual conference in Chattanooga, Tenn. 

The award (previously named the ‘Excellence in Craft Award’) was initiated in 1971 to honor an OWAA member “for outstanding effort in upholding the OWAA Creed and continued excellence in craft.” 

The recipient is selected by past Joan Wulff Enduring Excellence Award winners in consultation with the OWAA Awards Committee chair and the immediate past president. Wulff is an award-winning author and former national casting champion.

Dan Small of Westby, Wisconsin, the 2019 winner of the award and long-time host of the “Outdoor Wisconsin” show on Milwaukee Public Television, presented Smith with the award in Chattanooga.
