Norwegian Innovator Amundsen Sports Takes Pole Position in Venture Out at OR + Snow Show

Amundsen, through its unique convergence of heritage and performance, introduces more head-turning key styles in both apparel and footwear for Spring and Fall 2020

Denver, Colo. – (For Immediate Release) Amundsen Sports was born in Oslo, Norway in 2009, the brainchild of Jorgen Amundsen — industrial designer and relative of Roald Amundsen — and Erik Friis, Norwegian explorer and skier. Together they questioned the way people dress for their outdoor activities, in a market that seemed to have forgotten essential knowledge built up over decades that Roald first studied from the Inuits at the turn of the 20th Century. The brand was born 100 years from the day of Roald’s flag planting, in 2009, and hissuccessful combination of tradition with innovation is what inspires Amundsen on its mission to enhance and simplify everyday life for outdoor enthusiasts.

Here in the U.S., Amundsen is staying true to its mission of growing with specialty retailers by presenting a groundbreaking collection of fashion-forward, heritage- inspired, and European-made performance pieces at Winter OR + Snow Show, and we are again confident in telling you that there is nothing else like it on the show floor.

Amundsen Sport’s progressive European designs, sustainable manufacturing practices, and commitment to ensuring their ingredients are ethically sourced and of the highest quality is unparalleled, including a short-travel manufacturing process, using European fabrics and natural, long-lasting resources, as well as the most stylish and lasting silhouettes and design innovations. Working with natural materials such as wool and cotton in unique ways, these products are not mass produced in the usual ways of other contemporary outdoor performance apparel, and the brand offers consumers and retailers a new way to approach adventure.

Amundsen Sports may be best known as the inventor of the technical knickerbocker, a unique and highly-effective way of combining traditional Norwegian ski wear with modern materials and functionality.

Ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities, the Skauen Anorak is a durable, all-around 3-layer pullover shell top made from organic cotton for breathability, blended with Lycra for flexibility with an electrospun membrane. This new nano-fiber structure has enabled us to create our most lightweight, breathable membrane to date. It’s an ultra-thin, nimble garment that feels comfortable yet provides the protection needed against the elements in the harshest environments. The fabric is made from extra thin and long staple organic cotton fibers, using traditional weaving techniques to create a very tight fabric. When dry, the fabric is extremely soft and breathable. When wet, the overtightened cotton fibers swell, sealing the weave and making it water repellent. The Skauen Anorak is living proof that cotton is back to challenge the over-engineered products of today, designed to be long lasting and versatile. With a focus on renewable raw materials and natural alternatives to modern synthetics, as with natural fibers, it is a silent jacket and its color will age, giving it a great independent look the more you wear it.

About Amundsen Sports

Amundsen Sports When Roald Amundsen set out to conquer the South Pole in 1911, he went to live with the Inuits to study their knowledge of cold weather survival. At the same time he was exploring cutting edge technology of his day. His ability to look back in time while leaping forward, his urge to explore the unexplored, his accuracy, and above all his refusal to accept the status quo, helped Roald succeed where others had failed. Amundsen Sports was founded on these standards. His successful combination of tradition with innovation inspires us on our mission to enhance and simplify everyday life for outdoor enthusiasts. We develop smart products inspired by the past and built for the future. We do not believe in the ever growing fabricated need of micro-specialised clothing for each of your outdoor activities. As long as your products are Adaptable, Versatile, Long-lasting and Stylish, you do not need a big outdoor wardrobe. This philosophy, combined with our focus on short-traveled production, has the natural benefit of being good for the environment.
